Dragons
Went shopping in Wan Chai and saw this spontaneous Chinese Dragon show on the street. Watching it back I still can't believe there are two people under there! They make a convincing dragon.
Another presentation down
The successful group after one of the seemingly 1572620 presentations we had to complete during the semester. This one on social media use in HK..
Yum(my) Cha
So apparently Yum Cha is the name given to the whole 'experience' of drinking tea and eating small dishes of food, whereas Dim Sum is just the name given to the selection of small dishes. Either way it's always delicious.

Wife cake?
My hk friend brought me a wife cake to try (note key ingredient: Lard). Needless to say we wolfed down the whole packet.
Tailored suits?
Yes today we were measured by an odd man for tailored suits! In a dodgy apartment. On the 15th floor. And his suit was too big for him. Hmm..2nd December for the results..

Just a short one, I'm going to start updating this bad boy (due to the purchase of a clever phone)...but only/mainly/hopefully with photos...oooh. Exciting times, I know.

Hong Kong State Of Mind
Hey Ho,
Sooo after a long productive day of searching online for plane tickets, how to learn Mandarin youtube videos and countless lists of things to do out East, the whole search culminated in this little beaut of a video:
'Concrete jungle where we eat dim sum, Special admin region'.
Genius.
Next post will be more informative. Possibly.

Exchange Meeting...
Tuesday, 12 April 2011
I got my visa and my visa...
There it is. How lovely. The visa application form all ready to send 5995 miles east to Hong Kong (that distance is right, I googled it). That is all.
Oh actually that is not all. The rest of the application is all filled out as well, both in old-school paper form and new-school online form. The $500HK (only about 40 pounds) admission fee is also paid and so the next step is just to wait apparently. I can do that, I guess. Maybe I could make a vlog...hmmm I'm trying to think of ideas to make this 'waiting' stage more interesting...actually I'm thinking of starting my dissertation sooo maybe I should get on with that...or find a new background for the blog, either would be productive!

Excitement kicking in: Check.
Ok so this is really reminding me of being accepted to Disney.
The same excitement. The same anticipation. The same butterflies in my stomach.
I'm looking all over the internet to find glimpses of things I might experience when I'm out there. I luuurve just maxing out on youtube or searching for blogs and getting lost in all the videos and stories of things to do out there, I'm even watching videos in chinese! Ok I know what you're thinking (honestly I do), 'Nick, chill the eff out man, it's still like 6 months away,' and you would be right for thinking that, so thankyou. But I'm hoping they will fly by!
So this is one video I watched, it's from the Hong Kong PolyU (that's what the students call it, don't 'cha know) youtube channel. It's done by I guess some dude from London who went out and did an exchange there. He gave out business cards... bit weird. But other than that yeah it's really cool, I want to go and mingle! There's even some peeps from UCF which was the uni right next to Disney that loads of the American cps went to, kind of cool!
Anyway, that's it. Just sharing this with you. (I swear this is becoming more and more like a diary..)
Right I NEEEED to get back to work now!
See y'all later..

Hong Kong Baby!
So today began just like any other day...
Actually, that's a lie. I handed in some coursework this morning, had a 'celebratory' full english breakfast and then came home, little did I know that a lovely email from the Oxford Brookes Exchange Office was waiting for me in my inbox..
Now I want to say that I opened that email there and then and the happiness ensued...
...unfortunately thats a lie. I was somewhere a little more/less glamourous depending how you look at it - Specsavers.
So anyway I was there. I took my phone, opened my emails (tipped off by a fellow applicant..) and saw it. I HAD BEEN NOMINATED TO GO ON EXCHANGE TO HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY!

(imagine that, if you will, except with some dodgy glasses on..)
WOHOOOOOOOOOOO!
I'm not sure on dates or anything yeeeeet, but you will be the first to know!
Lots of love,
Nick 'A future Hong Konger'
